On July 8, the Latvian Olympic Committee confirmed the composition of the Latvian delegation for the XXXIII Summer Olympic Games, which will take place from 26 July to 11 August in Paris, France. The Latvian team also includes three athletes from Jelgava.
The Latvian team consists of 29 athletes in 14 sports disciplines – 3×3 basketball, BMX cycling, BMX freestyle, diving, equestrian, mountain biking, modern pentathlon, swimming, beach volleyball, weightlifting, shooting, road cycling, tennis, and athletics.
Three athletes from Jelgava will go to the Olympic Games – BMX cyclist Kristens Krīgers, for whom this will be his Olympic debut, javelin thrower Gatis Čakšs, for whom this will be his second games, and Olympic champion Edgars Krūmiņš as one of six members of the 3×3 basketball team. “In preparation for Paris, the emphasis was on preparing two young players who will play together with Kārlis Pauls Lasmanis and Nauris Miezis. But both Agnis Čavars and I are included in the team as sparring partners,” notes E. Krūmiņš.
