At the end of March, from March 24 to 30, a culinary festival called “Tasting in Jelgava” will take place in Jelgava and its surroundings. During this event, residents and visitors of the city will be invited to embark on a culinary adventure, enjoying special offers from restaurants and eateries in Jelgava and Jelgava Municipality.

The spring “Tasting” will feature both regular participants in the event, who will offer special menus, as well as a new participant. For the first time, “Grauda Spēks” will surprise visitors with new flavor combinations, while “Brokastnīca” in Jelgava and “Pūteļkrogs” in Jelgava Municipality will return with their offerings.
In total, 16 restaurants, cafés, pubs, bakeries, and a manor will offer their unique versions of “Tasting” meals. In Jelgava, food enthusiasts can enjoy offerings from: “Brokastnīca”, “Central Cafe”, “Chocolate & Pepper”, “Grauda Spēks”, “Istaba”, “Noliktava Nr.2”, “Parks”, “Pilsētas Elpa”, bistro “Silva”, and tea house “Silva”. In Jelgava Municipality, visitors will be welcomed by “Masti Grill & Chill”, “Svētes klubs”, “Pūteļkrogs”, “Meka”, Branku brunch spot, and the historic Abgunste Manor.
This year, Jelgava celebrates its 760th anniversary, and it is only fitting that the spring “Tasting” event will be dedicated to the city’s jubilee. To celebrate this significant milestone, a special offer called “Taste Jelgava 760 grams” has been created. Each restaurant will offer a “taste bouquet” in 760 grams.
This concept is not just a numerical element – it symbolically connects to the city’s history and development over the centuries. The 760-gram meal will offer guests not only a culinary experience but also the opportunity to feel the historical story through food. Each participating restaurant will interpret this idea in its own way: some will include references to Jelgava’s culinary heritage, others will offer newly created, creative, and modern versions, while some will surprise guests with local products and flavor combinations. During this week, visitors can enjoy dishes like creamy perch soup with smoked butter and onion ash, sour milk vanilla cream with caramel sauce, birch sap jelly with roasted hazelnuts, slow-cooked beef stew in red wine with vegetables and potatoes, vibrant fruit cocktails, and many more delicacies.
It should be noted that some restaurants will offer their special meals on specific days of the week. Bistro “Silva” will offer “Tasting” dishes from March 24 to 28 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., “Noliktava Nr.2” from March 25 to 29 from 12 p.m. to 10 p.m., Branku brunch spot on March 28 at 6 p.m. The Abgunste Manor will welcome guests on March 28 at 7 p.m., March 29 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m., and March 30 at 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. “Grauda Spēks” will host guests on March 29 at 12 p.m., 3 p.m., and 6 p.m. “Svētes klubs” will offer their dishes on weekdays from March 24 to 28 from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. The “Chocolate & Pepper” restaurant will offer their dishes on weekdays from 3 p.m., and on Saturday and Sunday from 12 p.m.
Guests are encouraged to book tables in advance at the participating restaurants to ensure the opportunity to enjoy the prepared offers. “Grauda Spēks” and Abgunste Manor will welcome guests only with prior ticket purchase.
The menus for the “Tasting” event, as well as the working hours of the participating eateries, will be available soon on www.visit.jelgava.lv, Visit.Jelgava, and Taste Jelgava profiles on Facebook and Instagram, as well as on the website of the Jelgava Catering and Hospitality Industry Association at www.tastejelgava.mozello.lv.
The “Tasting in Jelgava” event takes place twice a year – in spring and autumn. The event is organized by the Jelgava Regional Tourism Center in cooperation with Jelgava City, Jelgava Municipality, the Jelgava Catering and Hospitality Industry Association, and local catering businesses.
