“Jelgavas autobusu parks” Ltd. has developed a new city public transport route scheme, which allows passengers to navigate city bus routes much more conveniently. The map of Jelgava shows in details the timetable of each bus route and its stops. New maps are now being launched at stops – in total, around 90 city bus stops.
Due to the rapid spread of the coronavirus Covid 19 in Europe and the declaration of emergency situation, public measures have been cancelled in Latvia, including in Jelgava, from March 13. Cultural and leisure events have been canceled, as well as the reunion of Jelgava High School No. 4 planned on March 14. As far as possible, this and other measures will be rescheduled after the end of the emergency situation in the state.
The government has decided to extend the precautionary and security measures during the emergency situation in order to prevent more effectively the spread of COVID-19 in Latvia. The restrictions will affect the work of educational establishments, public assembly, movement outside the state borders and other areas.
30 professional artists from seven countries have been chosen to participate in 22nd International Ice sculpture festival, which will be held in Jelgava from 7th to 9th of February. Creating 45 competition sculptures, artists will bring to life 2020 years’ festival theme “Superhero’s”.
The 22nd International Ice Sculpture Festival will take place in Jelgava from 7th to 9th of February with theme “Superheroes”. The venues of the festival are Pasta (Post) Island, Čakste Boulevard and the open-air concert hall “Mītava”. Several restrictions on pedestrian movement as well as traffic organization could be applied during the festival. Visitors are invited to park cars on the side of the River Lielupe, from which they arrive in the city and if possible, avoid using the Lielupe Bridge.
On February 7th to 9th Jelgava City invites to the 22nd International Ice Sculpture festival – the largest gathering of ice superheroes in the Baltics. Ice art, demonstrations of sculpture making, an extensive cultural program and other surprises.
The International Ice Sculpture festival will be held in Jelgava for the 22nd time on February 2nd to 9th 2020. The event has gained recognition and popularity among Latvian and foreign guests and artists, and this year’s contest looks promising already – organized with the subject matter “Superheroes”.
Christmas trade fair will be held on December 1st from 15pm to 18.30pm on the Duke Jacob’s Square, where not only holiday themed goods will be available for townspeople and guests, but visitors will also have the opportunity to witness the lighting up of the main Christmas tree of the city at 17-18:00pm.
From 21st to 27th October both local residents and guests are cordially invited to participate in Jelgava Restaurant week. It will be a chance to savor the season’s best foods from products from local producers. Selection of eight restaurants form Jelgava and Jelgava county open their doors to all gourmands to treat themselves introducing new flavors and gaining new experience.
On 31st of August in Jelgava a number of entertaining, educational and attractive events will take place in different locations throughout the city. Local townspeople as well as city guests can choose to visit their favorite events.
Yesterday (17th July) was presented Latvian youth team, which will participate in the European Youth Olympics in the capital of Azerbaijan Baku. Amongst all the 34 Latvian athletes in the delegation, Jelgava’s athlete Māra Anna Zīverte was also included.
On July 13th the sixth annual nocturnal half-marathon will be held in Jelgava city as a 5th stage of “Bigbank” Run Latvia event. All supporters of active lifestyle, as well as anybody else are welcome to test their strength and durability, by selecting the distance that fit their fitness level and skill!
