On June 10th and 11th, the 17th International Sand Sculpture Festival “Summer Signs 2023” will take place on Pasta Island in Jelgava, Latvia. During the festival, 17 sculptors from nine countries will depict world music hits in the sand. The opening days of the festival will feature concerts by Latvian musicians and a wide range of recreational activities for families with children.
The artist Jānis Šneiders began working on the mural “Live Broadcast” on the front of Jelgava Centra Elementary School. It will be dedicated to the theme of nature and is a gift to Jelgava from the “Viegli” educational initiative “Ziedoņas klase” of the Imants Ziedonis Foundation.
At the end of May, we will celebrate the city’s 758th birthday and the 450th anniversary since Jelgava was granted city rights with a city holiday procession, concerts and other events. The holiday motto is unchanged – “We are Jelgava”. The widest program is planned for the weekend – from May 26 to 28. Let’s increase the festive mood and this week of May we will raise the flag of Jelgava or the national flag of Latvia at buildings and institutions, and attach car flags to vehicles!
The 24th International Ice Sculpture Festival will take place from February 3 to 5 in Jelgava – on Jānis Čakste boulevard, Pasta island and in the open-air concert hall “Mītava”. This year, the works of art will be created by 32 professional sculptors from 12 countries, revealing a unique perspective on the ancient deities and their importance in different cultures. At the festival, 45 competition sculptures will be created in almost a week, but in total more than 60 ice objects will be on display. Tickets can be purchased at “Bilešu paradīze” ticket offices. Tickets will be cheaper if you buy them in advance, until February 2.
Applications have been announced for the 24th International Ice Sculpture Festival, which will gather world-class sculptors in Jelgava from January 28 to February 4, 2023. This time, the artists’ view of the ancient deities – their importance in different cultures – will be revealed in ice art. Sculptors are invited to apply for the festival by filling out the official application form at festivali.jelgava.lv until November 20.
The public report of Jelgava City Municipality for the past year has been published. On November 28, the central Christmas tree of the city of Jelgava was lit in the Duke Jacob’s Square on the first of Advent. For the tenth year the tree is made of many small Christmas trees arranged in the metal structure and will delight the townspeople until the middle of January.
