JLSS hockey player wins the gold of the World Youth Winter Olympics

The Latvian U-16 national team in 3×3 hockey became the champions of the Youth Winter Olympic Games. Jelgava Ice Sports School (JLSS) goalkeeper Patriks Plūmiņš played in the national team.

In the final match, which took place last night, the Latvian national team met their Danish peers and, winning with a score of 10:3 (6:1, 2:0, 2:2), became the youth Olympic champions. Besides Latvia, Denmark, Poland, Austria, Taiwan, Kazakhstan, Great Britain and Spain participated in the hockey tournament. The teams played a round-robin tournament in which our team won all the games: 24:5 against Spain, 24:1 against Great Britain, 15:11 against Kazakhstan, 28:2 against Taiwan, 9:3 against Austria, 11:6 against Denmark and 8: 3 against Poland. In the semi-finals, our hockey players beat Kazakhstan with a score of 19:6 and beat Denmark in the final. The head coach of the national team is Lauris Dārziņš, he was assisted by Jānis Sprukts.

 

Latvia is represented at the games in 11 sports out of 15: 3×3 hockey, curling, biathlon, bobsleigh, skeleton, luge, cross-country and mountain skiing, speed skating, figure skating and short track. Three JLSS students are included in the Latvian national team – short track athlete M.Gintere, whose starts have already ended, hockey player Patriks Plūmiņš, who won a gold medal last night, and figure skater Kirils Korkačs, who has to skate the short program on January 27, and the optional program on January 29.

So far, Latvia has won six medals: gold in skeleton and 3×3 hockey, two silver medals in luge and one in skeleton and one bronze medal in skeleton.
