Financial Times’ FDi Magazine has published the study “European Cities and Regions of the Future 2024”, which evaluates European cities and regions according to their economic, financial and business advantages. In the category “Foreign Direct Investment Strategy” (FDI Strategy), in which the environment accessible to foreign investments is evaluated, Jelgava occupies the 6th place.

Jelgava city has been showing a high score for several years in the FDI Intelligence research category ” European Cities and Regions of the Future” organized by the “Financial Times” monthly edition “FDi Magazine”. This year, in the group of micro-cities with a population of up to 100,000, Jelgava is ranked 6th in the foreign direct investment attraction strategy.

“Financial Times” researchers conduct an evaluation every year according to certain criteria in order to identify the most successful and promising European cities and regions in attracting investments. This year, a total of 509 applications from cities and regions were evaluated in five sub-categories: “Economic potential”, “Human capital and lifestyle”, “Cost effectiveness”, “Connectivity” and “Business friendliness”. In the sixth category – “Foreign direct investment strategy” – 117 applications were evaluated, including Jelgava’s. Each applicant submitted an application by answering more than 10 questions related to investment opportunities and their attraction in the given city. It should be noted that cities and regions were evaluated not only according to the submitted answers, but also divided into categories according to their area and number of inhabitants. When evaluating European cities, they were grouped into five categories: metropolises, large cities, medium-sized cities, small cities and micro-cities. Jelgava is evaluated in the group of micro-cities, which includes cities with a population of up to 100,000. The results of the study can be found on the website www.fdiintelligence.com.
