Jelgava City Library has received a generous donation – 173 books in French – from Jelgava’s sister city in France, Rueil-Malmaison. The donation is special because it has significantly added to the library’s collection of books in French, which until now has been very small. Books in French are arranged on a special shelf in the children’s and youth library “Zinītis” at Zemgales Prospekts 7. “We really hope and believe that these books will encourage the people of Jelgava to learn this beautiful language,” says the library.

The gift includes books for children of both primary and secondary school age – fiction, comics and various branch books about nature, which allow you to get to know the wide world through rich illustrations. Visually very attractive, high-quality and new, also 2023 editions. If the book is published in a series, then the full series is available in the library. The smallest ones, who are still listening, observing and researching, will be attracted by books with different textures, hidden pictures and interesting details, which will make the process of listening to books even more exciting.

All the books are placed together in the branch of the Jelgava City Library – the “Zinītis” children’s and youth library -, in the subscription of middle school age children, and they are grouped in alphabetical order. Books are available for home delivery within the standard reading period of 15 days.

The library states that in order to inform the public and that this message reaches as many recipients as possible, city schools, learning centers and a university where French is taught face-to-face have been identified, and there are nine such institutions in Jelgava. But there are many more options for learning a language online. In order to inform about this possibility, the library also intends to privately address French language teachers, school methodologists and librarians.
