In May, the Jelgava municipality will announce a tender for the project “Development of Zemgale Industrial Park, Phase I.” This will involve the reconstruction of sections of Atmodas, Lapskalna, and Slokas streets, as well as the establishment of new road sections to connect Atmodas Street with Dobele Highway, and the resurfacing of asphalt on Meiju Street. This will be one of the most ambitious projects in the city in recent times, significantly transforming this area of the city in the coming years.
The municipality signed an agreement with the Central Finance and Contracting Agency for the implementation of the EU-funded project on February 1st. The total project costs amount to €23,968,935.45 – €20 million of which is funding from the EU Recovery and Resilience Mechanism, and €3,968,935.45 is co-financing from the Jelgava municipality.
The aim of the project is to develop infrastructure in the Zemgale Industrial Park area and attract investors, as well as to promote the creation of new high-value-added jobs. Prospective industries that could develop in the park area include knowledge-intensive bioeconomy, smart energy, information and communication technologies, smart materials, and technology and engineering systems.
However, before the area can develop, the transportation infrastructure needs to be organized to provide access to the industrial park. By implementing this project, the traffic and engineering infrastructure of four street sections in the city will be improved over a length of 4.16 kilometers:
- Reconstruction of the section of Atmodas Street up to Lapskalna Street, including the construction of two new street sections, 810 meters in length, to connect Atmodas Street with Dobele Highway. The street will also undergo reconstruction of stormwater drainage networks, water supply and sewerage networks, lighting, as well as the construction of an electronic communication network and parking lots.
- Reconstruction of the section of Lapskalna Street from Slokas Street to Zvejnieku Street, including the planned construction of a new street section, 46 meters in length, including reconstruction of stormwater drainage networks, water supply and sewerage networks, lighting, and electronic communication network construction and reconstruction.
- Reconstruction of the section of Slokas Street from Meiju Street to Lapskalna Street, including reconstruction of stormwater drainage networks, water supply and sewerage networks, lighting, and electronic communication network construction and reconstruction.
Meanwhile, the asphalt concrete pavement will be renewed on the section of Meiju Street from Satiksmes Street to 1st Line, and stormwater drainage network shafts will be reconstructed and new connections built, along with the construction of water supply and sewerage networks, lighting, and reconstruction of electronic communication networks.
Construction works will commence this year.
