In order to learn about the swimming training program and understand how the training process is organized, representatives of the Jelgava Specialized Swimming School have traveled to Carmel, a sister city of Jelgava in the United States.

“We plan to attend both morning and evening swimming training sessions at Carmel High School, as well as meet with fitness and swimming coaches. Our goal is to familiarize ourselves with their training program and see if we can take anything from it and implement it in our daily work,” says Aldis Trukšāns, Deputy Director of the Jelgava Specialized Swimming School. Along with him, coach Veronika Gorškova has also traveled to Carmel. The Jelgava representatives also hope to explore the city and its sports infrastructure, as well as learn more about Carmel’s sports life.

It should be noted that this exchange program is one of the initiatives of the cooperation agreement between Jelgava and Carmel, developed by Latvia’s Honorary Consul in Indiana and the President of the Carmel Sister City Committee, Andris Bērziņš. As part of the exchange program, local municipal police officers, medical personnel, as well as artists and cultural groups from Jelgava, have visited Carmel.

Carmel is a city in the state of Indiana with a population of more than 100,000. In 2022, it became the thirteenth sister city of Jelgava and the first sister city in the United States.
