The camp “Jelgava – Mītava” for children and young people from Jelgava’s sister city in Ukraine, Ivano-Frankivsk, is coming to an end. It is organised by the municipality with the support of entrepreneurs, and today, with performances at Jelgava Primary School “Valdeka” Development Centre, the camp participants expressed their gratitude to the entrepreneurs and the Jelgava municipality for the opportunity to enjoy two carefree and peaceful weeks. Another group of children and young people from Ivano-Frankivsk will arrive in Jelgava on Monday.

On 14 July, the first of two camps will conclude, in which 29 children and young people, as well as five accompanying teachers, have stayed in Jelgava for two weeks. Dace Ekša, the director of Jelgava Primary School “Valdeka” Development Centre, took on the role of camp leader and prepared a two-week program where the children, young people, and accompanying teachers got to know Jelgava by visiting our city’s tourist attractions and taking a boat trip on the Lielupe and Driksa rivers with the boat “Moana”, as well as Latvia, visiting Tērvete Nature Park and other places. The camp participants also had the excellent opportunity to participate in masterclasses – in decoupage, painting, candle making, and a bread-baking masterclass at the bakery “Lāči”.

The camp in our city is made possible by the support of entrepreneurs. Companies that responded to the municipality’s call to participate in the camp’s provision include SIA “Evopipes”, SIA “Gren Jelgava”, “VAKS Cooperative Society”, SIA “AKG Thermotechnik Lettland”, SIA “Zn Metals”, SIA “Road Construction Company “Igate””, SIA “RIMI Latvia”, and SIA “Lidl Latvia”.

To thank the entrepreneurs and the Jelgava municipality for the opportunity to relax and gain positive emotions, the children and young people from Ukraine prepared a concert at the school today.

On 15 July, the second group of camp participants will arrive in Jelgava – 30 children and young people and five accompanying teachers, who, like the first group, will spend two weeks in Jelgava, get to know the city, and participate in various activities. Thus, a total of 59 children and young people and 10 teachers from our sister city Ivano-Frankivsk will be hosted in the city this summer.

The Jelgava municipality thanks all the companies that responded to the call and made it possible to support the camp’s operation in Jelgava, providing the children and young people from Ukraine, who have spent the school year under wartime conditions, the opportunity to relax, gain positive emotions, and make new friends during the summer holidays.
